WHEREAS, Norman Goldstein, was born in Brooklyn, New York, in
1934, graduated from Columbia University and received his Medical
Degree from the State University of New York in 1959; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Goldstein, after a tour of duty at U.S. Army Tripler
General Hospital as Chief of the Dermatology Service, took up
residence in our islands, where he has become a distinguished
member of Hawaii?s medical community over the past three decades;
and
WHEREAS, a highly regarded clinician, researcher, educator and
author, he has published more than seventy articles and papers
on various dermatological subjects that have enlightened both
his colleagues and the general public; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Goldstein was honored in 1993 as the Hawaii Medical
Association Physician of the Year and is listed in Hawaii?s Top
Doctors and Best Doctors in America; and
WHEREAS, he has demonstrated his commitment to public service
as a member of the Governor?s Blue Ribbon Panel on Living and
Dying with Dignity, and as an advisor to the Hawaii Department
of Health?s skin cancer prevention education project; and
WHEREAS, on the occasion of his sixty-fourth birthday, Dr. Norman
Goldstein will be honored at a party on Bastille Day, Tuesday,
July 14, 1998, at the Oahu Country Club;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENJAMIN J. CAYETANO, Governor of the State
of Hawaii, do hereby proclaim July 14, 1998 to be
DR. NORMAN GOLDSTEIN DAY
in Hawaii, and join with his many friends and admirers in wishing
him a very happy birthday and many more years of good health and
happiness.
